I stumbled across this video series that pokes fun at religious beliefs and the ridiculous ideas they are founded on. I haven’t watched the entire series but I am posting one of the videos that made an indirect jab at Islam. I’ve written about my opinion that I don’t think Islam was founded in what is current day Mecca(and still have more to write on the topic). I thought it was interesting to see that there must be a rise in people who think the same thing and funny how the actor portrayed it. The jab is at 1:39 but it’s better to start at 1:30 and best to watch to whole thing. It’s a little over 3 minutes(the remainder is the creator asking for donations) so it doesn’t take much time. The series has a youtube channel which is http://www.youtube.com/user/misterdeity. The web address is http://www.mrdeity.com.

I think every Muslim has encountered the ayat from the Quran where Muhammad/Allah states that the Quran is so unique that they challenge anyone to bring a similitude or something like it(or better). Dawah efforts and khutbahs are built around these verses to induce awe at the magnificence of the Quran. The first appearances of this challenge were revealed in Mecca because the Quraysh would question Muhammad about the authenticity of the Quran:

“But when the truth(Muhammad with his Message) has come to them from Us, they say: “Why is he not given the like of what was given to Musa? Did they not disbelieve in that which was given to Musa of old? They say: “Two kinds of magic(Torah and Quran) each helping the other! And they say: “Verily, in both we are disbelivers.” Surah Al-Qasas(28) verse 48

Muhammad/Allah then goes on to say:

“Say(to them oh Muhammad) “Then bring a Book from Allah, which is a better guide than these two(Torah and Quran), that I may follow it, if you are truthful.” Surah Al-Qasas(28) verse 49

and so the competition begins. (more…)
